The Junk Design

Founded in 2021 by architect and designer Tarık Rasim Nomer, The Junk was born from a desire to challenge the fast fashion system and create something that lasts—both in form and in meaning.

While studying in Milan, Tarık was immersed in the worlds of design and fashion. But it was the growing impact of overproduction and waste that sparked a deeper purpose: to design pieces that make a difference. That’s where The Junk began.

The first bags weren’t made in a factory, but at home—with the help of his mother, Meryem Nomer, a physics engineer with a talent for sewing. Tarık shaped the designs on paper; Meryem brought them to life with her hands. Together, they stitched the beginnings of The Junk—built on craftsmanship, intention, and heart.

We take discarded industrial materials—truck tarps, fire hoses, seat belts—and turn them into one-of-a-kind bags. These aren’t mass-produced accessories. Every bag is designed individually, shaped by the marks, textures, and stories of its past life.

No two bags are the same. That’s our promise.

Durable, functional, and built to be worn for years—each piece is a statement of both style and intention. It’s fashion that carries meaning.

Today, The Junk operates across three locations: Turkey, the Netherlands, and the USA.

With roots in upcycling and a mission that spans continents, we’re building a global movement—one unique bag at a time.

Because true sustainability isn’t just a trend.

It’s a story worth carrying.
